A whole year has passed since ~yvART contacted me and offered me the chance of being part of the staff of this wonderful group as Moderator for %devPREMIUM's Macro Gallery. I couldn't believe it, it was a very nice surprise, and I immediately accepted.
Some days later I had the first Spotlight ready to go, and since then 52 weeks in a row featuring the best (in my opinion) of the deviantART's Macro Gallery.
It's been sometimes a tough task, this gallery is used for a lot of people to submit a lot of crap, I'm sorry if I sound too rude, but that's what I feel sometimes when after reviewing all the pictures submitted in a whole week I barely have 30 or 40 pictures that are really worthy. Fortunately each week I discover at least one new Deviant that put a lot of effort to share their art with the Community, that deserves a bit of more attention. That's the main objective of these Spotlights, to bring attention to the newest and also the best submissions of the last week for each category.
I also met a lot of great artists that bring to deviantART some amazing pieces each week, and although I always try to feature different people in each Spotlight, there are a couple of deviants that are there almost every week.
I decided to ask some of them to answer one single question for me: "What does Macro Phohography means for you?", and these are their thoughts:
~BokehLight's gallery is a mix of multiple styles and genres, from Wildlife, Landscapes or Architecture to of course Macro:
To me, Macro Photography is the discovery of a completely new world within the world we live. It has its own fascinating and inspiring patterns, structures and colors. I like the challenge to make photographs that lets you see things in a different light and from a new perspective.
*pqphotography is the founder of #True-Macro and is contributor in a couple more of groups dedicated to Macro. He likes to play with anything that can stand some drops of water, like a clip,a needle or a fork to creat amazing pictures.
I like that you can see the amazing things in nature that you wouldn't normally notice on a day to day basis and I love the creative side of macro photography: if you have the ideas you can do so many amazing things with this type of photography.
*melvynyeo's gallery is not only full of amazingly detailed pictures of bugs, spiders, ants and other kind of creatures, but also include in the comments of each deviation a lot of information about the scientific name, habits and other things about the insect we are watching at.
*AimishBoy's awesome gallery is simply magical, he creates unbelievable scenes with little insects that seem to act for him just like actors or models posing. The focus and the vivid colors he achieves are absolutely perfect.
"I love the idea that, just like when reading a good fantasy or sci-fi book, I can go on an adventure, exploring fictional landscapes and visiting magical forests, hills and lakes, populated by amazing creatures, all of them are in reach and all of them are so small they can fit into the palm of my hand."
*relhom's gallery means drops and splashes. The huge variety of different shapes of his pictures mean he has put more effort and time in his art than anyone can imagine.
=Kara-a started into Macro photography as many of us (including me) with a point-and-shoot camera, but really boost her creativity whith a DSLR, creating some awesome pieces giving life to single drops of water and showing us the beauty of tiny bugs.
It is a great feeling to walk along roads, you already walked along 100 times before, and find a lot of small things that you never paid attention to before. There are so many pretty things around you and i love to discover them. Macro photography is really versatile and sometimes quite challenging for me and i love it.
~ZULUS77 gets closer to them, those little creatures many people don't like, to offer us a different view of them: they can be very beautiful and interesting, and often seem to agree in pose for a photograph.
Macro photography is for me the fascinating world of small animals that we often do not notice, even though we know that they are diverse and beautiful.
*FurImmerUndEwig are a couple of deviants with a lovely story, as they met here in DA, and now they are going to get married!! They also share a passion for photography and have a great gallery where you can find a lot of different styles and techniques, including Macro for sure.
To us it means to discover the unseen and to explore tiny worlds that you cannot see with your bare eyes.
*GrotesqueDarling13 is the founder of #MarvelousMacro a nice group for macrophotographers, and a very prolific artist. Her pictures are full of magic, giving life to a single drop and creating pleasent scenes with nice bokehs and tiny DOFs: really worth checking.
It means that I get to open up new doors to magical worlds, worlds that most people overlook without notice because they haven't seen the beauty in the small and simple yet. I love that I can create my own worlds with a water droplet or make a leaf covered in frost seem as beautiful as I already think it is :] I love to discover and fall into other macro artists work, I find comfort and amazement in what can be created with simple subjects packed with tons of passion. So my goal with each macro piece is to show another world to someone who never knew they were interested until they fell into a scene they happened to love. Because you never know what you'll find in macro, until you really look closer!! I'm always learning, still so in love with the tiny side of life.
Maybe some of you miss someone in the list above, these are some of the best Macro Photography artists of this Community, but there are a lot more who produce awesome pieces: =AnnaKirsten, ~diensilver, ~GorillaInk, *AlHabshi, ~globalunion, `dragonfly-oli,... and many, many more. Please forgive me if I didn't mention you
And now for the finish, the best of the last week from the Macro gallery and as Undiscovered Talent , a new deviant: ~lichtschrijver, he's been with us just for one month, but his gallery is really worth checking out:
See a piece that should be featured?
Don't hesitate to note me with the thumb! I'll do my best to get it in the next feature.
